Safety at Cape Town's popular beaches has come to the fore as the festive season begins and beach-goers lodge a number of complaints.
Lifesaving Western Province says 478 voluntary lifeguards have been signed up for beach clubs around the Cape, while the City of Cape Town is responsible for paid lifesaving services.
He said that volunteer lifeguards are deployed at certain beaches on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

Meanwhile, the City's Belinda Walker said Western Province Lifesaving has not forwarded the relevant complaints over lack of visible lifeguards.
