Ines Antonio makes emotional statement at acid-attack sentencing

Sentencing proceedings have begun in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court for a 45-year-old man who threw drain acid at his former girlfriend.

Jan Pieterse was found guilty of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm when he attacked the mother of his child, Ines Antonio, a year ago.

EWN reporter Mia Lindeque on Monday said that Antonio made an emotional statement on the stand, where she turned to her former boyfriend and offered him forgiveness, while also pleading to the courts to give him a lengthy sentence.

Pieterse was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Listen to the full conversation, with Ray White standing in, on The Midday Report:

She turned to look at him in the accused box and said 'I forgive you from the bottom of my heart, but you stole my identity. Our child is scared of you, but I want to forgive you. You still need to go to jail to learn to stop abusing women.
