Rastafarian lawyer, Gareth Prince appeared briefly before the Western Cape High Court to take on the state.
He and 16 other pro-marijuana activists are challenging the constitutionality of cannabis prohibition laws.
Judge Dennis Davis has postponed the matter until March to give the applicants time to produce supporting argument.

Natalie Malgas of the Eye Witness News says that Davis required expert witnesses to substantiate their arguments.
The matter will be heard before a full bench of the High Court next year.
