Zuma's reshuffle shows lack of economic understanding - Maimane

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane on Thursday said that the decision to recall Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene confirms that President Jacob Zuma does not understand the nature of economics.

It's reckless, dangerous and irresponsible. President Zuma is a leader who has shown absolutely no understanding of the South African economy.

Meanwhile, Nedbank's Chief Economist Dennis Dykes said it is exceptionally worrying that Nene has been 'fired' for doing his job correctly.

Listen to the full conversation from CapeTalk's Breakfast with Kieno Kammies:

The concern is what (former) Minister Nene may have done wrong. It seems he's been fired for doing his job correctly, which is making sure the country can balance its books, avoiding further credit downgrades, bad decisions at our parastatals and the nuclear programme.
