Meet the first black south African to obtain PhD in Viticulture

Growing up Paarl, Dr Erna Blancquaert was surrounded by the vineyards and exposed to wine from early age because her father worked in the wine farms. These inspired her to pursue a career in the wine industry.

Graduated from Stellenbosch University, she is the first black South African to receive the PhD (Agric) degree in Viticulture, a field that involves the study of grapes.

I was always fascinated by the wording at the back of wine bottle and I couldn’t figure out how is it possible to relate grapes and wine to get all this aromatics in wine.
