Growing up Paarl, Dr Erna Blancquaert was surrounded by the vineyards and exposed to wine from early age because her father worked in the wine farms. These inspired her to pursue a career in the wine industry.
Graduated from Stellenbosch University, she is the first black South African to receive the PhD (Agric) degree in Viticulture, a field that involves the study of grapes.
