WC to charge principals at schools withholding report cards

The Western Cape Education Department says it will lay charges of misconduct against principals who have withheld report cards from pupils and parents.

Spokesperson for Education MEC Debbie Schafer, Jessica Shelver says principals are well aware of the legislation that prohibits denying access to report cards.

Section 41 of the South African schools Act say that learners may not be deprived of their rights to participate fully in school programmes, this includes receiving a report card.

It is against the law to do this and they will be charged with misconduct.
