A group of high-profile South Africans have written an open letter to President Jacob Zuma, lamenting his decision to fire Nhlanhla Nene, saying it will take years or even decades to reverse.
The group includes Professor Barney Pityana, Bonang Mohale, Prince Mashele, Lawson Naidoo and Mark Heywood.
Pityana on Monday said that the decision to remove Nene, appoint David van Rooyen and then later redeploy Pravin Gordhan to the the finance portfolio, shows an immense sense of irrational thinking.
