South Africans set sights abroad - migration consultants

There is a growing number of South Africans exploring their options about leaving the country, some citing the current political climate.

Africa Melane on Wednesday spoke to immigration consultants Dianne Acres and Marlene Prentice about the emigration trends.

Listen to the conversation below:

We've definitely seen an increase (of South Africans considering to settle in Canada) since the announcement (of Nhlanhla Nene's removal from Cabinet) last week...

Dianne Acres, Managing Director of Canadian Immigration Consulting

For half of them it's a knee-jerk reaction, the other half (the way they have put it) have been considering it for a while.

Dianne Acres, Managing Director of Canadian Immigration Consulting

Prior to Thursday I used to get about two enquiries from South Africans (wanting to emigrate to Australia) per day and that jumped to about 5 or 6 from Thursday... It is a definite hike...

Marlene Prentice,

The enquiries I've been getting are from mainly very serious people... saying 'we are now ready to move'

Marlene Prentice, Principal owner of Migrant Network Australia

From Thursday the enquiries have been coupled with 'I am worried if I can afford to emigrate if I leave it too late...'

Marlene Prentice, Principal owner of Migrant Network Australia
