30 additional immigration officials deployed at OR Tambo

The Department of Home Affairs has deployed an additional 30 immigration officials to OR Tambo International Airport over the festive season.

702 and Cape Talk's Koketso Sachane (standing in for Redi Tlhabi) spoke to department spokesperson, Mayihlome Tshwete, regarding the decision to address the increased movement of people in and out the country.

Listen to the interview below:

The biggest drawback [to the biometric system] has been some of the public sentiment of resistance. In terms of implimenting it, it has gone relatively well.

Mayihlome Tshwete, Department of Home Affairs DDG

The nature of our work is to be a facilitator of movement and to have a security element to that. It comes with a level of notoriety, but they are for the benefit of the country.

Mayihlome Tshwete, Department of Home Affairs DDG
