#RhodesMustFall labelled a move to expunge white South Africans' contributions

Former president FW de Klerk has been criticism for speaking out against the removal of the statue of Cecil John Rhodes at Oriel College, Oxford University.

The #RhodesMustFall Oxford movement responded to De Klerk’s open letter with an open letter of their own, criticising his views regarding the Rhodes statue.

Dave Steward, the executive director at the FW de Klerk Foundation, says that they were not surprised by the criticisms from the EFF and the Rhodes Must Fall Campaign.

According to Steward, De Klerk’s letter was balanced and did not defend Rhodes in any way.
