The importance of distinguishing between hate, hateful and hurtful speech

This week, racism and hate speech have garnered up a lot of attention on social media, specifically with the news of the Penny Sparrow, Justin Van Vuuren, Chris Hart, Velaphi Khumalo and Andrew Barnes.

CapeTalk/702’s John Maytham spoke to Jacques Rousseau, Columnist at The Daily Maverick about what constitutes hate speech.

According to Rousseau, there are distinctions to be made in all above mentioned cases.
