Education specialists suggest that the dip in the 2015 matric pass rate was strongly influenced by passing through the system learners who failed – known as progressed learners.
CEO of Umalusi Dr Mafu Rakometsi said the negative effect of progressed learners on the the 2015 matric pass rate is negligible.
Meanwhile educational specialist Nic Spaull advised that the impact of these learners cannot be accurately measured as districts and departments do not sufficiently record the number of pupils progressed.
