According to a survey conducted by Wesgro, the provincial marketing, trade promotion and investment agency, tourism in the region is also paying a price for the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
The survey includes 22 outward-bound tour operators, which showed that more than a third of the businesses have thousands of rands (over 220 000 rand) as a result of the Ebola scare.
The losses are mostly attributed to cancellations of bookings, which are apparently occurring every day. The most notable of these cancellations are delegates who are pulling out of a major conference taking place in the province next week.
