Airbnb is an online market that links people looking to rent out their homes with people looking for accommodation.
Hosts list and rent out their unused space while travellers select dates they wish to travel and pick from a list of options.
Properties on offer are not professionally run hotels or apartments, but rather the homes of regular people looking to make some extra money.
It’s free to register as a host.
Guests and hosts write reviews about each other.
Staying at an Airbnb property is, typically, more affordable than staying at a hotel.
The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Brigid Prinsloo, Airbnb host and founder of Superhost South Africa.
Prinsloo gave the following five tips on making money on Airbnb:
Have professional photos taken of your listing.
Price your listing competitively and reprice often.
Respond as soon as possible and be “super-duper ultra over the top friendly”.
- Ensure a great guest experience.
