Gentrification in Cape Town - the pros and cons

The issue of gentrification can be a contentious one, with some quarters arguing that it is unfair on groups who have traditionally called the area "home" for generations.

There is the argument that it drives poor people out or that they don't get to benefit from the turnaround strategies that are brought to the neighbourhood.

One classic example is whether the rejuvenation of the suburb of Woodstock in Cape Town has marginalised those who have lived there for most of their lives, and are now being sidelined or even driven out due to gentrification.

Kieno Kammies explored this topic with the CEO of Cape Town Partnership, Bulelwa Ngewana.
