The rand traded at R15.70 (up 0.89%) to the US dollar and at R17.81 (down 0.15%) to the euro, 15 minutes before the start of President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address.
The FTSE/JSE All Share index traded at 47411.57 points (down 1.78%).
The blue-chip Top-40 index was at 42054.18 points (down 2.22%).
Right after the president finished his speech the rand traded at R15.84 to the US dollar and at R17.95 against the euro.
