The University of Cape Town (UCT)’s executive says it prefers not to have private security on its premises to help control the situation.
Dr Russell Ally, the executive director of the Development & Alumni Department at UCT, says the university would rather use its resources in areas that are more needy and have greater impact on learning and teaching.

According to Dr Ally, the use of private security in 2015 was not aimed at getting involved in political issues but to make sure that the core activities of the university would continue as planned.
