60 baboons killed since the year 2010 - Baboon Matters

A man who allegedly shot and killed a baboon in Misty Cliff in December appeared in the Simonstown Magistrates Court today.

Baboon Matters has long been critical on the way in which the baboon population in Mistry Cliff has been managed.

Baboon Matters was part of a silent protest outside of the Simonstown Magistrates Court.

According to Jenny Trethowan, Director of Baboon Matters, the city, through its baboon management policy has killed 60 baboons since the year 2010.

The City of Cape Town’s Julia Wood, Manager for Biodiversity Management Branch, Environmental Resource Management responded by saying that they are only trying to make sure there is a sustainable population of baboons.
