Bruce Whitfield one on one with Minister Pravin Gordhan on today's budget

The Minister spoke to Bruce Whitfield after his much anticipated budget speech and said that his budget did meet many of the indicators required by the international credit agencies - but he also considered strongly what our country needs right now.

If we can sustain this in a collective effort then we are well on our way to beginning to move in a different direction. But it will take compromise and strong leadership.

Minister Gordhan addressed why VAT is the last tax he would want to raise as it effects the poor. He says its a debate the country should have. He would rather consider a different kind of VAT rate on luxury items so that we do not hurt the poor. Be cautious in using it he warns.
