#RhodesMustFall - 'A Movement that has shaken foundations of SA'

Student protests have been in the spotlight this week, following disagreements between university management and students, which resulted in some universities closing down due to violence and vandalism.

Nomboniso Gasa, standing in for Redi Tlhabi, spoke to Wanelisa Xaba, a masters student at University of Cape Town and a member of the #RhodesMustFall movement.

Xaba clarified what the movement is all about and what it stands for. However, her comments on South African history sparked a heated argument between her and Gasa.

Listen to the conversation below:

I think this is a movement that has really shaken the foundations of this country

Wanelisa Xaba, member of #RhodesMustFall movement

It has really transformed how we speak about redress and justice in this country

Wanelisa Xaba, member of #RhodesMustFall movement

Decolonisation is a radical different approach to righting the wrongs of the past that people like Nelson Mandela, Cyril Ramaphosa and Jacob Zuma have lied to this country about in terms of what the way forward should be.

Wanelisa Xaba, member of #RhodesMustFall movement

Unfortunately things will not fall. White people are deeply invested in white supremacy, in maintaining black segregation in this country.
