Michael Jordaan's latest No.1 reads - two men who are changing the future

Michael Jordaan gives his perspective on two of his favourite latest reads - The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon by Brad Stone and Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance.

He says he was drawn to the books because while many people know about Facebook and Apple - not everyone realises the contribution both Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk in changing the world.

They are both such interesting entrepreneurs. And they are changing the world as we know it

Jeff Bezos - founder of Amazon - has changed the way the world shops online and his attention to detail and always putting the customer first is legendary.

Bezos would constantly say that we not going to spend money on marketing if the customer experience is not yet perfect.

And Elon Musk - with Tesla and SpaceX - is the guy everyone wishes they could be says Jordaan.

For anyone who has a dream of changing the future positively, it is Elon Musk. He really wants to save the planet

Jordaan says he was in kindergarten with Musk - though he doubts he would remember him. He says he was a quiet boy.

Its not just that he likes rockets, he truly wants man to become an inter planetary species - for man to go and live on other planets.

Jordaan just loves the incredible vision both these men have. He says South Africa's tech eco system is still in its infancy. We need more role models, more entrepreneurs like these who succeed, and then we can do it.

They are both driven by incredible vision and they are apparently not easy to work with. They are tough and demanding bosses. But that is probably how one has to be in order to do what they have done.

And both Musk and Bezos have South African connections.
