Why NPA boss Shaun Abrahams wants priority unit to report cases directly to him

National Prosecution Authority (NPA) boss Shaun Abrahams has defended his decision to change the reporting lines for top litigation team, the Priority Crimes Litigation Unit (PCLU).

Abrahams ordered that the PCLU report high profile and controversial crimes directly to his office.

I specifically wanted the PCLU to report to me, to have direct oversight in respect of the decisions made by the special director who heads that structure.

Shaun Abrahams, National Prosecution Authority Head

Abrahams denied that there was anything sinister or political about the decision to have direct oversight.

There nothing irregular or wrong about it. It's a fair and just process and I'm enjoined to do so, not only by the NPA Act, but by the mandate of the PCLU.

Shaun Abrahams, National Prosecution Authority Head
