The 51-year-old woman from Lavender Hill accused of abducting Zephany Nurse in 1997 has been convicted of kidnapping, fraud and contravening sections of the Children’s Act.
EWN's Shamiela Fischer says it was clear from the beginning that Judge President John Hlophe was not going to believe the version of events presented by the woman.
Hlophe said the state's nine witnesses who appeared before the Western Cape High Court had no reason to lie.
Lies, lies, lies. That is what Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe made of the Lavender Hill resident's claims about legally adopting the child.— Shamiela Fisher, EWN reporter
After the woman was found guilty, her bail was refused and she was immediately taken to prison.
