Shell garage heroes helped student to escape rapist

The employees of the Shell Garage on Paradise Road helped the latest victim of the alleged Rhodes Memorial rapist escape her attacker.

One of the Shell staff members explained to John Maytham how, together with her colleagues, managed to lock the victim in their staff room and called the police.

According to Phumeza, the victim was brought to the garage by her attacker to withdraw money for him. When the man entered the shop to buy a cooldrink, the victim quickly asked the garage staff to protect her from a man she said wanted to kill her..

Phumeza says the victim was badly injured.
