SA Inc on Gupta #StateCapture (and JZ's failure to deal with it in Parliament)

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Saki Macozoma (President of Business Leadership South Africa), Mike Teke (President of the Chamber of Mines) and Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council).

Saki Macozoma (President of Business Leadership South Africa)

Macozoma said that the statement by Deputy Finance Minister Jonas that he was offered the Finance Minister’s job by the Gupta brothers marks a grave threat to our country’s constitutional democracy.

He further indicated that the statement requires a decisive response from President Zuma who alone has the prerogative to appoint both ministers and deputy ministers.

If other senior public office bearers have had similar approaches - now is the time for them to take the people of South Africa into their confidence.

Mike Teke (President of the Chamber of Mines)

The Chamber of Mines has raised concern regarding the widespread allegations of state capture.

In particular, the latest revelations of potential Gupta family involvement in the selection of cabinet ministers in South Africa, in processes contrary to the country’s Constitution, are of serious concern to the South African mining industry.

Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council)

The Black Business Council (BBC) has noted with concern the recent media statements, alleging that the Gupta family is influencing the appointments of certain ministers within the government of the Republic of South Africa.

The BBC reiterates its call on government and business to engage the tough headwinds the country is faced with in improving our economic outlook and restoring confidence in our state leadership.

The Black Business Council and its member organisations view these developments in a serious light.

It would be insane not to be worried about the state of the nation!

Saki Macozoma (President of Business Leadership South Africa)

The Guptas could have exercised their power without any of us knowing.

Saki Macozoma (President of Business Leadership South Africa)

It’s about time people come out. Is there anybody else who has been approached in this way?

Saki Macozoma (President of Business Leadership South Africa)

We need our leaders to get beyond their denialism.

Saki Macozoma (President of Business Leadership South Africa)

This must stop! We have rules.

Saki Macozoma (President of Business Leadership South Africa)

We don’t want this negative influence. Allegations about this same family persists. We have rules about how we do things in this country!

Mike Teke (President of the Chamber of Mines)

We need to get back to a democratic system where the rule of law prevails.

Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council)

Jacob Zuma did not deal with this sufficiently in Parliament today.

Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council)

Nobody should have superior access to the State.

Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council)

We call for a judicial commission of enquiry into the relationship that businesses have with Government. We must ensure the state cannot be captured.

Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council)

We need to trust that the political system has the best interest of South Africans at heart.

Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council)

The nation is in a state of unease with the sense of having been hijacked.

Mohale Ralebitso (CEO of the Black Business Council)
