ATM scammers become more sophisticated

Muneeb Hendricks, Security Manager for the CCID, says ATM scammers often look well groomed these days. They are using ingenious ways of distracting users in order to get access to pins.

Before they used to skim your card with a hand hold machine...now they now longer use those devices at the ATMs so they come up with ingenious ways of distracting you.

They also changing the language on the screen from say English to Xhosa so that tourists can't understand it, then they will go up...and come across as a hero trying to assist.

Hendricks urges all ATM users to become much more vigilant and always cover the keypad when entering your pin.

We are almost to shy to cover up our keypad because we think it makes us look distrustful.

He also says it is dangerous to have high daily withdrawal limits and recommends keeping them low.
