If you expecting NEC to recall Pres, you will be dissapointed says Munusammy

If people are looking at this meeting through the prism of recall, they are going to be disappointed.

Ranjeni Munusammy, Associate Editor for Daily Maverick

This concept of recall never existed previously. It came up in 2008, when the ANC was looking for a way to get rid of Former President Thabo Mbeki. I think there is more innovative thinking. They are thinking broader than recall.

Ranjeni Munusammy, Associate Editor for Daily Maverick

Munsammy says she believes there will be some form of sanction.

I think there is sufficient anger in the upper echelons of the ANC to ensure that the Gupta family gets heavily rebuked and also sufficient anger at the President's actions, so unlike previous meetings...there will be more people speaking out than there has been.

Ranjeni Munusammy, Associate Editor for Daily Maverick

She says the strongest voice will be ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe.

He has been very scathing about the Gupta family and has not minced his words about it.

Ranjeni Munusammy, Associate Editor for Daily Maverick

Mantashe has not bought into the Gupta responses to allegations of political job offers, that it is all about ANC faction fighting. She says the Guptas are trying to put pressure on the NEC and people they have secured in the NEC to act in their favour. And there will be a push back lead by the Secretary General.
