There is not doubt that the controversial Gupta family, in hand with the Presidency, are using their political influence to channel advertising spend to The New Age, says Journalism Professor Jane Duncan.
This comes after claims that The New Age received R10 199 million in government adspend last year.
Duncan explains that the recent revelation from former government spokesperson Themba Maseko has confirmed President Jacob Zuma's involvement in a push to drive state business to the Guptas.
There's a non-transparent channeling of government advertising to prop up a media outlet that is now very clearly acting as a propaganda arm for the Guptas and the support for the Presidency and in return, the Presidency's support for the Guptas.— Jane Duncan, Journalism, Film and Television professor
