New ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu ready to crack down on slacking MPs

Newly appointed African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu says he feels honoured to have been chosen by the ruling party.

Mthembu will replace Stone Sizani, who suddenly resigned his seat in Parliament earlier this month.

I'm very honoured that the leadership of the movement decided on me when there are so many capable and wonderful cadres in the National Assembly.

He explained the daunting task ahead of him and said he would crack down on ANC MPs who do not fulfill their duties.

Any MP who is not pulling his or her weight will be sent to the discipline of the ANC. We can't have people who are sent to Parliament to perform and just stay away. We will be a little bit tougher.
