Winter is drawing near, and the cold weather demands on electricity begin to climb. The past few winters have seen many power cuts. But this year Eskom says it will be better.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the power utility is prepared for the rising demand over the winter season.
Phasiwe says Eskom has been conducting a great deal of maintenance on its power system and have significantly reduced unplanned outages.
Several generators were taken offline and serviced during a ‘maintenance festival’ over the Easter weekend.
We were able to switch offline a number of our units, some of which are back online and many others will be gradually phased in as we move towards winter. So things will be looking much better this year.— Khulu Phasiwe, Spokesperson for Eskom
