Are Christian religious holidays alienating other religious groups?

Should the government do away with observing Christian religious days as public holidays to avoid neglecting other religions?

Redi Tlhabi gave listeners an opportunity to share their thoughts regarding the matter.

Listen to the conversation below:

Only Christians have holidays that are recognised as public holidays...Why don't all religions have holidays?

Themba, caller in Kempton Park

At Wits, they do allow for other holidays by not having submissions or tests on those religious days observed by others.

Keitsitse, caller in Joburg

I'm in the HR industry and I'm a practising Christian and I believe that every religion should be respected equally. I believe that all religious public holidays should be done away with.

Darren, caller in Krugersdorp

I think that Christmas is a period that we take off because it's a summer vacation, and not because it's Christmas.

Heather, caller in Sandton

Being Hindu, we don't have public holidays that are acknowledged. If I wanted to take the day off for Diwali, I'd have to apply for annual leave.

Trishia, caller in Sandton
