How childhood trauma can affect romantic relationships

Recent research suggests that people who have survived trauma as children struggle as adults with intimacy, adult relationships and romantic love.

Dr Eve explores how traumatic childhood experiences could affect romantic relationships later in life -‘Developmental Trauma Disorder’.

We are talking to specific group of people who have been impacted by adverse childhood experiences.

According to Dr Eve people with traumatic or abusive childhood experiences have the inability to regulate their emotions, difficulty attaching to partners and would sometimes be involved aggressive behaviour towards others.

I started doing research into trauma about 2 years ago… we found that underneath addictions, out of control behaviours, rage and sexuality, there are children who have been traumatised – adults who have been traumatised as children.

The good news is we have things like mindfulness and bio-feedback which rewires the electricity of the brain so people can think more clearly, rational and make better decisions around choices of partner intimacy and sexuality.
