Look out for stranded loggerhead turtles on the beach

Every year, the Two Oceans Aquarium saves and rehabilitates as many turtles as possible. Last year they managed to rehabilitate more than 200 hatchlings.

This year the Aquarium is calling for Capetonians to be on the look out for stranded loggerhead turtles when at the beach.

Spokesperson of the Aquarium Renée Leeuwner says the hatchlings are from the Kwazulu Natal area. They get caught up in the wrong current and as a result get washed up onto Cape Town beaches.

We ask people to let us know when they find these turtles and get them to the Aquarium as soon as possible.

Renée Leeuwner, Two Oceans Aquarium

Please do not put them back into the ocean... if you take a weak turtle and put it back into the ocean it gets exposed to the cold waters.
