Fraudsters using De Lille's name to bait victims in e-mail phishing scam

The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia De Lille, has found that her name is being used in what appears to be a phishing scam.

According to De Lille, communication has been sent from a forged e-mail address (patriciadelille@consultant.com) in addition to a fake Facebook profile used to solicit contact details.

I do want to appeal to the members of the public not to repsond to e-mails coming from this account.

Five separate incidents have been reported to her office thus far and the matter has been handed over to the police.

The Mayor asks that anyone receiving such an e-mail, in which her name is used, contact her office on mayor.mayor@capetown.gov.za.
