3 alternative options for Sylvester the lion once he's recaptured

SANParks says it will explore various options for Sylvester the lion, who escaped from the Karoo National Park for a second time.

The three-year-old lion has been on the run for several days and has apparently killed a cow on a privately-owned farm.

According to EWN's Shamiela Fisher, SANParks has reneged on the decision to put Sylvester down and says euthanasia is the last resort.

They say he will only be put down if he poses a threat to human life.

Sylvester has been fitted with an electronic collar and SANParks hope it will be easier to track him down this time around, says Fisher.

Listen to the full conversation from The Midday Report with Stephen Grootes:

3 alternative options for Sylvester the lion:

1. Sylvester may be returned to the Karoo National Park with strengthened security.

2. He could be transferred to another state-owned wildlife reserve.

3. The big cat might get donated to a private conservation entity.
