Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says Thursday's Constitutional Court judgment proves that no political leader is above the law.
The DA filed for Zuma's impeachment after Chief Justice Mogoeng ruled that President Jacob Zuma broke his oath of office when he ignored the Public Protector's Nkandla Report.
The court found that Zuma failed to uphold, defend and respect the Constitution and ordered Zuma to pay back the money.
According to Maimane, the ruling is evidence that South Africa has an independent judiciary and that the Constitution remains strong.
He failed to defend his oath of office and the Constitution of the Republic. Our argument is that you can't have Zuma and the Constitution in one Parliament. Those two things cannot co-exist.— Mmusi Maimane, DA leader
