Meet Jon Cayzer, the man who pens powerful political speeches for a living

From the IFP's Mangosuthu Buthelezi, to the DA's Lindiwe Mazibuko and Helen Zille, speech writer Jon Cazyer has written his fair share of speeches for South Africa's political heavyweights.

Currently penning speeches for DA mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba, Cayzer shared his experiences of political speechwriting over the years.

According to Cayzer, it is increasingly popular for politicians and business leaders to have their speeches written for them but there are still public figures who write their own speeches.

Cayzer identified characteristics of both good and bad speeches and listeners called to share their most and least favourite.

"If a speech starts with a universal truth or shares personal stories about love and grief, it immediately pulls in the audience.
