Only time will tell how the weather will play out over this winter season, says climatologist Dr Peter Johnston.
According to Johnston, expected rainfall cannot be predicted yet as the rainy season has not yet begun.
May, June and July are the wetter months on the calendar and Johnston says climate forecast models have not determined if the season will be drier than usual or not.
He says the only thing that can be expected is unusual weather patterns.
Really anything could happen right now... We don't want to get people's hopes up or get them depressed. When we don't have a signal, then best we shut up and not say anything.— Peter Johnston, Climatologist at the Climate Systems Analysis Group at UCT
