Metro cops double down on visibility in Manenberg and Hanover Park

The City of Cape Town has beefed up police presence on the Cape Flats, following a surge in deadly gang violence.

Gun battles between several rival gangs have left at least eight people dead in Manenberg over the weekend.

City Law Enforcement Director Robbie Roberts says more metro cops have been deployed to Manenberg and Hanover Park, in addition to various operations carried out by the Gang and Drug Task Team.

There's high visibility within the hot spots in the Manenberg and Hanover Park area. We also executed stop and search activities and searched various addresses for high-flyers and drug dealers.

Robbie Roberts, Director of Law Enforcement in the City of Cape Town

Roberts says community members have provided key information regarding firearms, drugs and gangs, which led to the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of illegal guns and nearly R20 000.
