Des van Rooyen's infamous one-day Dubai holiday-business trip gets SA talking

Minister Des van Rooyen's infamous one-day visit to Dubai has raised questions whether the trip was related to the Gupta family.

Van Rooyen initially claimed to have gone on a one-day holiday to the luxurious destination but later said his visit was business related.

702/Cape Talk's Redi Tlhabi gave listeners an opportunity to share their thoughts regarding the issue.

Listen to the conversation below:

I would have rather gone to The Bahamas, but it just doesn't make sense to have a one-day holiday to Dubai.

Lerato, caller in Springs

This gentleman, van Rooyen, was going to sign his off-shore which he was promised. They were looking for his signature, nothing else.

Clement, caller in Lenasia

Van Rooyen said he understands the attention on him as a result of his public standing.

Dubai is the new Switzerland, Dubai is the place where they can hide their money.

Qhawe, caller in Cape Town

That must be the biggest money-laundering hub in the world...It will all come out in a couple of months.

Nash, caller in Kensington
