After a four year-long investigation, the arms deal report has found that there was no evidence of bribery or corruption in the procurement process.
The inquiry, known as the Seriti Commission, investigated allegations of fraud and corruption which marred the R70 billion arms procurement deal.
Addressing the nation, President Jacob Zuma released the findings of the report.
The commission states that not a single aorta of evidence was placed before it.President Jacob Zuma
Political writer and researcher Paul Holden says he is dismayed, but not entirely surprised by the findings, after withdrawing from the commission in 2014.
We believe that the commission was irredeemably tainted by its own conduct and that it wasn't attempting to investigating the arms deal in any meaningful way.Paul Holden, author of The Arms Deal in your Pocket
According to Holden, the inquiry did not make effective use of evidence or investigate thoroughly.
He explains what he believes to be the shortcomings of the commission and its alleged irregularities.
