He’s in charge of health care in the country’s second largest province, KZN. In his second term as health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo ensured the expansion of health services to even the most remote parts of this sprawling province. Several new hospitals have been built. He’s passionate about attitude of health care workers and urges nurses and doctors to remember that medicine is a calling.

At just 56, this dedicated public servant has been a member of MK, Robben island prisoner and lists a string of academic qualifications within and beyond the medical field. So, what do you do when there aren’t enough forensic pathologists in your province to do post mortems, well you do it yourself by qualifying as a pathologist. This is among a long list of this inspiring public leader’s accomplishments. So what drives him to succeed?
