Owner of Cape Town's The Book Lounge and organiser of this World Book day event, joined Pippa Hudson at Kuyasa Library in Khayelitsha.

The reality of the situation is in a bookshop we are selling books, and books are really, really expensive. Horribly so. The vast majority of people in this country can't afford to buy books, which speaks straight away to the incredible importance of libraries.

Mervyn Sloman, owner The Book Lounge

So anybody who is invested in books, anybody who is invested in the future of this country i would think, needs to be engaging with libraries and doing whatever they can to support them.

Mervyn Sloman, owner The Book Lounge

That is how we build this country actually, through libraries and schools.

Mervyn Sloman, owner The Book Lounge

Sloman spoke about the Open Book Festival happening later this year, of which he is the festival director and founder.
