The storm on Friday may be followed by a few more much like it, according to environmental expert Dr Kevin Winter.
Winter says Cape Town should get used to very intense rainfalls over short periods of time.
We are seeing at least three to four of these intense cold fronts coming over and the precipitation is very high over a very short period (between 3 or 4 hours). Friday is a good example of that. We've been warned about it for a long time.— Dr Kevin Winter, environmental scientist
He predicts that at least 8 days in May will bring extreme heavy rains and at least 10 days in June and July, respectively.
According to Winter, the magnitude of the cold front last week caused unusual swells on Cape shores.
