Oakbay employees march to Absa, FNB and Standard Bank with demands

At least 100 Oakbay Investment employees have marched to three major banks in Johannesburg to persuade them to re-open banking accounts with the group.

Banks and other institutions cut ties with the Gupta-linked company following allegations of state capture.

EWN's Gia Nicolaides says that approximately 7 500 employees are affected by the closing of Oakbay accounts.

Employees met in the Johanessburg CBD holding placards reading 'save our jobs'.

They went to Absa, FNB and then Standard Bank to hand over a memorandum of demands.

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter

Employees from different divisions within the group, including The New Age and ANN7, have distanced themselves from the Gupta family and state capture allegations.

We are hoping to put pressure on the banks so that they may re-open our accounts.
