Dr Amy Mendham who is a post-doctoral research fellow at University of Cape Town in the division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine. She is also doing collaborative work at Sports Science Institute.
She focuses mainly on exercise programmes to help obese people, but she says diet is a critical element too.

She is involved in a study working with mainly black South African women to try and help get on top of this epidemic.
We getting obese black South African women aged 20 to 35, mostly recruiting out of Khayelitsha ...and also UCT students, and CPUT students, and we doing an exercise programme out at a church for an hour, four days a week over a 12 week period and looking at changes in where they distribute fat..and changes in insulin resistance because of the exercise programme.— Dr Amy Mendham, Exercise Science and Sports Medicine
