On Saturday morning, the Civil Aviation Authority temporarily suspended the airline’s operating certificate over safety concerns. The suspension was lifted yesterday afternoon, just 36 hours later.
Aviation Blogger & journalist Des Latham says the safety concerns of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have not been clarified for the public.
It dealt with two issues, one was an issue of safety and the other was the issue of monitoring not being up to the requisite standards by SA Express.
It seems to be linked to the Flight management System (FMS) ...which is like a really big computerised brain inside a place.— Des Latham, Aviation Blogger & journalist
After 36 hours all is fine? I'd like to know how they managed that.— Des Latham, Aviation Blogger & journalist
Despite the concerns, Latham says he would happily fly SA Express today. he says it is a good airline with excellent pilots and operating procedures.
These issues around data corruption have happened all over the world, he says, but the issue is to make it transparent and let the public know.
