Are we a country surrounded by closet racists?

The racist and sexist comments by Matt Theunissen has sparked outrage across the country and a fiery debate about racism perpetrated by white people.

Theunissen took to Facebook with a racist response to Minister Fikile Mbalula's decision to suspend the national cricket, rugby, athletics and netball teams from hosting international tournaments due to lack of transformation.

702/Cape Talk's Redi Tlhabi gave listeners an opportunity to share their thoughts regarding the issue.

Listen to the conversation below:

All this business of quotas. The fact that a white person can get straight A's and not be admitted in university, that is racism.

Richard, caller in Northcliff

Could there be a point in the future in our society where we realise that we give white people superiority by saying that they are the only ones who can be racist?

Trevor, caller in Rosslyn

Black people always have to react to what white people do to them, then we are called racists for that.

Norman, caller in Soweto

The thing that concerns me is white people's blindness to the privilege they've had and continued to have since 1994. A lot of the racism is an expression of white people's fear of not only having their privilege withdrawn, but it being slightly diminished.

Sue, caller in Muizenberg

I was born in 1954, I lived through the entire white experience. The question in my mind is what practical steps are expected of someone in my position to rectify the position I'm in?

Michael, caller in Carltonville

There's privileges in place that allow black people to be angry, and rightfully so, and it is for that reason that black people can't possibly be racist.

Thando, caller in Fourways
