The Public Protector's office has confirmed reports that a Western Cape gang boss has allegedly been hired to execute the murder of Thuli Madonsela.
Public Protector spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi explains that Madonsela's office received a text message last month revealing the plot to kill the advocate.
The SMS said: Please be careful. A top gangster (name withheld) was paid to get a hit man to kill you.— Kgalalelo Masibi, Public Protector spokesperson
Madonsela was concerned with the response she recieved after she informed the VIP protection unit of the death threats.
Masibi says that protection services dismissed informants as providing inaccurate information 90% of the time.
She's of the view that this threat was not taken seriously and feels that the threat should be investigated, in case it falls in the 5% that the informant is right.— Kgalalelo Masibi, Public Protector spokesperson
Madonsela awaits further response from the VIP protection unit and crime intelligence services.
