Vuwani has been declared a disaster area by the district municipality as schools remain closed in the Limpopo village.
EWN's Govan Whittles explains that the announcement frees up additional funding that will allow provincial officials to start rebuilding schools.
Declaring it a disaster area will allow Limpopo government to free up some money to rebuild the schools, and get mobile classrooms back into the area so that teaching can resume.— Govan Whittles, EWN reporter
According to Whittles, the education department does not have the budget to rebuild the damaged schools.
More than 20 schools have been vandalised or torched during protests against proposed municipal demarcation.
